An educational estimate — not advice.

acacalc.com helps you understand the 2026 ACA premium tax credit and the 400% cliff. It’s a starting point for your own research, not a substitute for professional guidance or an official determination.

Not professional advice

The information and estimates on this site are provided for general educational purposes only. They are not tax, legal, insurance, financial, or medical advice, are not a substitute for advice from a qualified professional, and don’t create any advisory relationship. Decisions about coverage, income, and taxes have real financial consequences — before you act, confirm your situation with a licensed broker, a tax professional, or the official marketplace.

Estimates, not quotes or determinations

The calculator produces an estimate, not a quote, an eligibility determination, or a guarantee of any credit amount. In particular:

  • Benchmark premium. Unless you enter your own figure, the tool uses a rough age-band estimate of the second-lowest-cost silver plan. Actual premiums vary by ZIP/rating area, insurer, tobacco use, and plan year. Your real number from HealthCare.gov will differ.
  • Poverty guidelines. Figures use the 2025 HHS Federal Poverty Guidelines, which govern 2026 coverage, and branch on state (Alaska and Hawaii use higher tables). Household sizes and edge cases may round differently than an official calculation.
  • Applicable-percentage table. The expected-contribution percentages come from IRS Rev. Proc. 2025-25 and are interpolated within each band. Your actual reconciled credit depends on your final MAGI and your benchmark plan.

Time-sensitive and subject to change

ACA figures update annually and the law can change. This tool models current enacted federal law for the 2026 plan year: the temporary enhanced credits expired after 2025, and the 400%-of-poverty subsidy cliff applies. A bill to restore the enhancements passed the House in January 2026 but has not become law. Legislative status is live — verify current status with primary sources (for example, congress.gov) before relying on it. Open-enrollment dates and dollar thresholds may also change after publication.

Verify before you rely on it

For an official estimate and to enroll, use HealthCare.gov or your state marketplace, and consult the IRS premium tax credit guidance. We do our best to keep figures accurate and to cite primary sources, but we make no warranty of accuracy or completeness and accept no liability for decisions made based on this site.
